Κάτω στη Ρόδο
Κάτω στη Ρόδο στο Ροδονήσι,
Τούρκος εβγήκε να κυνηγήσει.
Δεν κυνηγάει λαγούς και ’λάφια,
μόν’ κυνηγάει τα μαύρα μάτια.
«Μαύρα μου μάτια, κόκκινα χείλη,
έβγα, πουλάκι μου, στο παναθύρι,
να δεις τον ήλιο και το φεγγάρι,
να δεις το νέο που θα σε πάρει».
Η κόρη φεύγει δεν τονε θέλει,
τα μάτια παίρνει, στα όρη φεύγει.
Η σκύλα η μάνα της τον Τούρκο θέλει,
και καθημέρα τον προξενεύει.
«Πάρτονε, κόρη μου, τον Τούρκο γι’ άντρα,
θα σε φορέσει παπούτσι μαύρα».
«Δεν τονε θέλω, δεν τονε παίρνω,
πέρδικα γίνομαι, στα όρη φεύγω».

The song is included in the album “In the Middle of the Sea, songs from Samothrace”, produced by the Friends of the Melpo Merlier Music Folklore Archive (2002). These are previously unreleased recordings based on the collections of Nikolaos B. Phardys (from the last quarter of the 19th century, 19 songs) and Markos Ph. Dragoumis (1961, 3 songs), with orchestration curated by Socrates Sinopoulos.
