Two young Meliots got up to dance the syrtos,
they will ask us for songs and commendations.
Come, let us go over there and make merry,
let us sing songs from Meli!
How beautifully paired you are, you two of one height,
like the cypress trees* that are in the garden.
The wind blows the plane leaves,
may God protect the children from Meli.
I would like to commend you but you are praised already,
from toe-nails to head you are like painted pictures.
A little schooner was exiled by the north wind
and a girl from Meli inherited it.

Δυο Μελιωτάκια βγήκανε συρτό για να χορέψουν,
τραγούδια και παινέματα που θα μας τα γυρέψουν.
Έλα να πάμε πέρα και να γλεντήσομε,
μελιώτικα τραγούδια να τραγουδήσομε.
Όμορφα που ταιριάξατε τα δυο σας ένα μπόι,
σαν τα κυπαρισσόμηλα που ’ναι στο περιβόλι.
Αέρας τα φυσάει τα πλατανόφυλλα,
Θεός να τα φυλάει τα Μελιωτόπουλα.
Να σας παινέψω ήθελα μα ’σεις ’στε παινεμένα,
απέ τα νύχια ως την κορφή είστε ζουγραφισμένα.
Ένα τρεχαντηράκι βοριάς το ξόρισε
και μια Μελιωτοπούλα το κληρονόμησε.
