(1932–2012) | He was born in Agrinio, Central Greece, and came from a family of musicians. In 1952, he settled in Athens. He was the older brother of Christos Athanasopoulos-Mortakis.
He played various folk instruments, including the clarinet, flute, laouto (lute), oud, zournas, and goblet drum. His repertoire includes traditional songs of Smyrna (Izmir), Thessaly, Central Greece, and Macedonia. For twenty years he worked with Vassilis Saleas. He has participated as a musician in numerous albums, as well as in radio and television shows. Moreover, he has taken part in musical events in Greece and abroad.
