Τηλλυρκώτισσα
You are a bright star, bright and small amidst the seven planets,
the words you’ve said enslaved my heart.
They rushed and told this crazy lass that I’m to go away, go to foreign lands,
and she’s cast a spell upon the sea, the gusts of wind were wild.
Translated by Olia Petidou

A voice [phoni] coming from the area of Tellyria, Cyprus — one of the many ones I got to know thanks to Karas. We were taught this song by the Cypriot music instructor Theodoulos Kallinikos. The voices are love songs, every single one of which constitutes a melodic creation of a certain place of Cyprus that gives its name to the song. In the present song, the singer sings to his beloved. In the present album I did the singing.
Domna Samiou (1972)
Studio recording (1972).
