In Greek popular tradition, both musical and poetic, lullabies make up a very rich and extremely varied repertoire from one region to another.
Lullabies are usually passed down from grandmother to granddaughter. Indeed, although it is normally the mother who rocks her child to sleep, she is often busy working in the fields or as a day laborer. In such cases, it is the grandmother or the eldest daughter who takes her place.
Based on Domna Samiou’s 1965 field recording of the song in Kalamoti, Chios.
