Vassilis Katrakos

(1939–2000) | Born in Taxiarches, Kymi, Euboea. He came from a family of musicians — his father, Yiorgos Katrakos, played the violin.

Domna Samiou met both father and son in 1976 in Taxiarches during the filming of her TV programme Musical Travelogue with Domna Samiou – Euboea, Kymi, recording them performing two well-known local tunes. Later, Vassilis Katrakos performed a solo on his laouto (lute).

He collaborated with Domna Samiou by playing laouto on the recordings for the albums Songs of Asia Minor 1, 2 & CD and the LP A Stroll with Domna Samiou, during 1984–1986.

This is the product of an ‘alternative’ collaboration. After a personal invitation from Manos Hadjidakis, Domna Samiou publishes in Seiros this LP with songs which are for the first time brought together in a record.
On this LP, Domna Samiou presents songs and dances she recorded among refugees of Asia Minor: heartfelt interpretations dedicated to Baindiri, Domna’s hometown in Asia Minor. This LP marked the founding of the Domna Samiou Greek Folk Music Association.
