αμάν Βασίλω, πώς να σ’ αλησμονήσω;
και μένανε πού μ’ απαρατάς;
At that time, we went to great lengths to find authentic performers of the songs from each region, so we could feature them on the radio or in recordings. I remember once jumping off the trolley in a hurry —well before reaching my stop— because I had heard something that sounded potentially interesting. It must have been Christmas of 1964. I had just left the radio station where I worked, at 4 Rigillis Street, and was walking up Irodotou Street. At the corner of Kapsali and Irodotou there was a grocery store. From inside I heard instruments and voices singing Christmas carols. The sound drew me in… It turned out to be a group from Thessaly visiting some compatriots to sing the carols. I went in, pretended to shop, and when they finished, I approached them, spoke with them, and asked them to come for a recording. I then recorded with them a series of songs from Thessaly on small discs.
