Home / Her Work / Song Catalogue / The Night Endures for Thirteen Hours
The night endures for thirteen hours, I sleep for merely three.
Throughout the hours that then remain I think of only you.
It is night but day is breaking,
dawn allows of no concealment.
Night, what sorrow bows you down that you have put on mourning?
If you are deeply troubled too, your heart is torn by passion.
Then you know my heart’s afflictions.
come, and let us talk about them.
Translated by John Leatham
Live recording from the concert The Known and Unknown Domna at the Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall, in 29/10/1998.
Domna Samiou taped the song in Skyros Island, sung by Alekos Trachanas, in 1972.
