Το κάστρον της Αστροπαλιάς* έχει κλειδιά κλειδώνει,
έχει κορίτσια έμορφα μα δεν τα φανερώνει.
Έλα να σε φιλήσω κι απ’ τ’ άλλο μάγουλο,
να ροδοκοκκινίσει σαν τριαντάφυλλο.
*Το κάστρο της Αστυπάλαιας κατοικείτο κανονικά πριν από 50 χρόνια (η έκδοση αυτή πραγματοποιήθηκε το 1970, άρα ο σχολιαστής αναφέρεται στο 1920 περίπου).
The couplets are short poetic creations (erotic, epic, satirical, or expressions of nostalgia for the homeland), in the form of fifteen-syllable verse, sung throughout the night to the same melody, or more rarely to different ones. Here, the accompanying instrument is the tsambouna (the bagpipe of the islands).
The issios (or issos) dance appears in the Dodecanese with variations in both melody and dance patterns.
