It refers to the Macedonian fighter Captain Loukas Kokkinos (1878-1913), a comrade of Pavlos Melas. He operated in the Grevena region, mainly in the Vlach villages, where Romanian propaganda was rampant. He took part in many battles against the komitadjis and the exarchists. In 1912, he clashed with an Ottoman detachment in Lehovo, Florina, and was seriously wounded. He was taken to Grevena, where he died in 1913, listening to his song being sung by a passing group near the inn where he was staying.
