(1923–2014) | Violin virtuoso. He was born in the village of Androniani, in the Karystia region of Euboea. His father was a chanter, studied Byzantine music, ran a barber shop in the village, and played the laouto (lute).
Yiorgos began playing the mandolin at the age of 8, and later his father gave him a violin. In 1937, the family moved to Athens, where he attended the first grades of junior high school. He played alongside his father at weddings and festivals from the age of 9.
After the war, he collaborated with many prominent figures in Greek music, composed over a thousand songs, and earned numerous gold and platinum records. He also had a significant presence in Byzantine music.
