Come, all you birds, to make dough – help, O Virgin.
Now gold has merged with pearl – help, O Virgin.
I make a round loaf for the bridegroom, a round loaf for the groomsman – help, O Virgin.
A chestnut woven basket for them to take to him – help, O Virgin.
Translated by G. D. Lemos
This song is sung by the women on the Thursday before the wedding, during the “Zymaria” – that is, when they knead the wedding bread rings (koulouria) which will be distributed the next day to the village households as an invitation to the wedding.
