Η ομορφούλα
A local dance of Florina, Macedonia, known as Omorfoula (“The Beautiful One”), is performed in 4/4 meter. The clarinet appeared in Greek folk music around 1835 and has since been one of the most popular folk instruments, especially on the mainland.
The santur (dulcimer, santouri), similar to the cimbalom, covers three to four octaves. Each note is produced by three strings tuned in unison, which are struck by two slender sticks, whose striking edges are wrapped in cotton or leather.
Markos Ph. Dragoumis (1974)
The song’s lyrics have now been forgotten. Traditionally, it is played and danced mainly at wedding celebrations.
Studio recording (1974).
