Musical Travelogue with Domna Samiou – Cappadocia, Farasa

This episode is dedicated to the musical tradition of Farasa in Cappadocia. Domna Samiou meets the refugees from Farasa who settled in Platy village in Macedonia after the Asia Minor catastrophy and asks questions about their lives both past in Cappadocia (Asia Minor) and present in Greece. She also gives a comprehensive review of the history, geography, mythology and folk tradition of Farasa and Cappadocia, while she presents songs and dances of the area.

“Musical Travelogue with Domna Samiou” (“Musiko Odiporiko me ti Domna Samiou”) was a television series researched and presented by Domna Samiou and broadcast by Greek National Television in 1976-1977. Each episode was dedicated to the music and dance tradition of a different area of Greece.

The New Year’s carol Let’s Go to Saint Basil was filmed on Hymettus hill, in Athens.
Traditionally the people of Cappadocia sang and danced the tune in the yard of the church. Father Theodoros Theodoridis recounts to Domna Samiou information about the history and customs of the Farasa region of Cappadocia.
