Philippos Rountas

Clarinetist, he was born in the early 1920s in Doliana Pogoniou, Ioannina. During the 1930s, he collaborated with the ensemble “Takoutsia”, founded by the violinist Takis Kapsalis.

In 1960, he met Simon Karas and joined the orchestra of the Association for the Dissemination of National Music, as well as Karas’s radio program «Ελληνικοί Αντίλαλοι» (“Greek Echoes”) on the EIR. That same year, he participated in the orchestra that accompanied Domna Samiou in her first performance as a singer at the Hellenic-American Union, and recorded songs on 45 rpm records under her supervision.
