Michalis Viglatzis

(1947–2011) | Born and raised in Agiassos, Lesvos. Singer of traditional songs, amateur actor, and active member of his village community, where he was known by the nickname “Pappel’”. He also worked as a builder and café owner.

He was noted for his theatrical and vocal talents and played a leading role in local festivals and folk celebrations. He participated in the Choir of the Agiassos Reading Society and sang in recordings made by Simon Karas in Agiassos in 1974, which were released in the collections “Songs of Mytilene and Asia Minor” and “Songs of Mytilene and Chios”.

This recorded show includes stage performances of carnival songs and other related popular rituals from different areas of Greece, as they were presented at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall on 2003.

Concerts

A carnival feast at the stage of the Thessaloniki Concert Hall with songs, dances, and customs of the carnival period. In addition to Domna and her collaborators, musicians, singers, dancers and bands from regions of Greece take part, where even today the celebrations and rituals of Carnival maintain their authenticity.
