(1934–2014) | He was born in Distomo, Viotia, into a poor farming family, and at the age of 10 he witnessed firsthand the massacre of Distomo by the German Nazis. In 1954 he met Yiorgos Papasideris and recorded his first songs, accompanied by clarinet and laouto (lute). In 1955 he recorded another 78 rpm disc, continuing his presence in the discography of Greek folk music.
During the 1960s he recorded a series of 45 rpm discs, becoming one of the leading male voices of mainland Greek folk singing for Fidelity Records, under the artistic supervision of Domna Samiou. Later, in 1982–83, he participated in her radio programme “From All Over the Greek Land” («Από παντού της ελληνικής γης») on the Second Programme of ERA. He collaborated with notable clarinet players, while in several recordings he used the traditional instrumentation of pipiza and davul, preserving the old sonic character of the genre. Around the same period, he also recorded in more unexpected repertoire, performing works by Bayianteras, bridging folk tradition with the popular urban style.
He appeared in music events across Greece and abroad, took part in television productions and featured in some of the last pastoral films of Greek cinema. In later years he chose a more modest, semi-amateur relationship with singing, while also engaging in professional activities, running a tavern in Palatiani (Northwest of Athens) and living with his family between Palatiani, Megara and Salamina.
He passed away on 19 February 2014, at the age of 80.
