Αργός πεντοζάλης
The mandoura (flute) is a Cretan woodwind instrument made of cane. It is played vertically with a single reed and is about 20 cm in length. The laouto (lute) is a long-necked, fretted instrument of the lute family with four double strings.
The pentozalis in 2/4 meter is the most characteristic and spectacular of all the Cretan dances. Its footwork consists of small, quick, and precise steps, interspersed with lively leaps. It begins at a moderate or slow tempo and gradually accelerates. The example presented here is taken from the slow introductory section.
