Christos Konstantinou

(1950–2015) | A virtuoso of the tambouras, the bouzouki, and the oud. He was born in the village of Argaki in the Morphou region of Cyprus and came from a family of musicians.

At the age of 19 he joined Mikis Theodorakis’ “Laiki Orchestra”, which toured worldwide during the dictatorship, and remained one of its key collaborators thereafter. He was a soloist in the early recordings of many of Theodorakis’ albums. In Athens he worked alongside Vassilis Tsitsanis and Yannis Papaioannou in music venues and concerts. He also collaborated on numerous recordings with leading singers and composers of the art song and laiko genres.

In 1985 he founded the ensemble “Akrites”, which participated in the Nantes International Festival.

He died on 21 March 2015.
