Antonis Apergis

Composer and lyricist, he was born in 1963 in Nikaia, Piraeus. He studied guitar at the National Conservatory and later worked with a wide range of instruments —recorder, oud, double bass, kanun and ney—, eventually focusing on fretless guitars.

Alongside his activity as a performer, he distinguished himself as a composer and arranger. From a young age he made transcriptions of pre-classical music and composed for puppet theatre, while later arranging works for larger ensembles. He collaborated with important singers and musicians from the field of Greek folk and art music, as well as with artists from other musical traditions, such as Arab and Central Asian musicians, and various international ensembles.

He recorded several solo albums featuring his own compositions and appeared as an oud soloist in other discographic productions. He taught electric guitar and traditional music at conservatories and educational institutions, and toured in Greece and abroad with his band.
