Domna Samiou at the ‘Çemal Resit Rey Concert Hall’ of Constantinople

Publication on the concert at Çemal Resit Rey, in Istanbul in 1996.

Domna Samiou is singing for the first time in Constantinople. The renown singer from Asia Minor, who spread the authentic traditional songs of her homeland* and made them known to the modern Greeks, will be singing to the public in Constantinople on Friday 25th October.

Invited by the Çemal Resit Rey Concert Hall, something similar to our own ‘Megaron’, Domna Samiou will have the opportunity to present a two hour program dedicated to songs and tunes from various parts of Greece and Asia Minor. She will be accompanied by the musicians Nikos Philippidis (clarinet and flute), Yiorgos Marinakis (violin), Socrates Sinopoulos (Constantinopolitan lyre and lafta), Kostas Philippidis (lute) and Yiorgos Gevgelis (goblet drum and davul).

*Mrs. Samiou was born to Greek refugee parents who fled Asia Minor in 1922/23
