Dimitris Vagias

(1947–1996) | He was born in the village of Artopoula in Epirus. At the age of 13, he moved to Athens and worked various jobs before beginning his musical career. He sang at festivals and concerts in Greece and abroad. In addition to his extensive discography, he appeared on radio and television programs. In 1978, he founded the family entertainment center “Epirotiko Saloni” («Ηπειρώτικο Σαλόνι») in Athens. He was a devoted performer and tireless collector and preserver of authentic Epirotic folk songs. He passed away in September 1996 in Athens.

Domna Samiou had the general musical supervision of this important LP including twelve songs most of which are interpreted by her accompanied by local traditional musicians. As in all previous LPs, the songs are representative of all areas of Hellenism and are performed without any alteration in lyrics or music.

Concerts

In 1971, in the midst of the military Junta period in Greece, Dionysis Savvopoulos convinced Domna to sing at the club “Rodeo”. In the following years, she performed at “Kyttaro” and “Rizes”.
