Christodoulos Zoumpas

Born in 1927 in the village of Grammeno, Ioannina, into a family of musicians. A virtuoso lute player, his repertoire focused mainly on the music of Epirus. From the late 1950s he settled in the Athens district of Metaxourgeio, a neighbourhood that became a hub for many Epirote musicians seeking a more hopeful life in the capital. His sound and lute playing became highly sought after by the leading figures of Greek folk music, with whom he collaborated both in Greek music festivals and in the discography.
