Charalambos Giannopoulos

He was born in 1946 in the village of Kerassia, Kalavryta, and played the clarinet, the flute, and the laouto (lute).

In 1966 he settled in Athens and apprenticed with the renowned traditional musicians Tassos Chalkias and Simos Kyriakatis.

In 1972 he met Simon Karas and, under his guidance, enriched his theoretical musical knowledge by studying Byzantine music. For many years he collaborated with the Society for the Dissemination of National Music, taking part in its events and in Simon Karas’s radio programs, and teaching clarinet and flute at the Society’s school.
