Amalia Karzi

A traditional singer from the Peloponnese, born in the village of Katsarou (or Katsaros) in Messinia. She later settled in Athens, where she spent most of her life. Known for her authentic interpretation of Peloponnesian songs, she was actively involved in discography from the 1960s onward, collaborating with major institutions and researchers of Greek traditional music. Her voice is preserved in numerous field and studio recordings, which are today considered valuable documentation of the Peloponnesian repertoire. She died in Athens in 2013.

A collection of 127 traditional songs and tunes from all over Greece that were first released on 45 rpm records between 1959 and 1969 under the direction and musical supervision of Domna Samiou. The collection was compiled and edited by Yiorgos Tsampras.
