Petros Kourtis

Born in 1969 in Lefkada, he started playing percussion at the age of 14. He studied classical percussion at the Municipal Conservatory of Zografou, from which he graduated in 2000. He continued his studies at the Berklee College of Music (Athens), where he studied traditional percussion under leading musicians.

In 2004 he participated as a drummer in the Opening Ceremony of the Athens Olympic Games. In 1995 he founded the ensemble “Iasis”, and in 1997, together with Vangelis Karipis and Andreas Pappas, he created the group “Krotala”. In 2006 the group collaborated with Loreena McKennitt on her album “An Ancient Muse”.

He collaborated with numerous artists, both in discography and on tours in Greece and abroad. From 1994 he taught percussion at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory, in the Modern and Traditional Music Departments. He also authored books for the learning of percussion instruments.

In 1996 he collaborated with Domna Samiou, performing percussion in her concerts.
