Nikos Karatassos

(1931–2017) | Born in Piraeus, with family roots in Smyrna, Asia Minor, he began playing the santur at the age of 12. From 1945 to 1962 he performed in music venues, weddings, and village festivals, and in 1962 he travelled to the USA for a year with the Greek Folk Dance Group “Eleni Tsaouli”.

He toured extensively, took part in events and concerts of folk music with ensembles from all over Greece, and performed on radio and television programmes as well as in film.

He appeared on numerous recordings, releasing his first personal album in 1987.
