I was born on Rhodes where both my parents had been posted as civil servants. My father had been born on Euboea Island, while my mother had been a refugee from Asia Minor, born in Athens. When I completed primary school, we moved to Athens where I live still. I got my University degree in Modern Greek Literature; I married and went for postgraduate studies to Munich where our son, Vassilis Christopoulos, was born. On our return to Greece, I started working with the State TV and I liked it. 8 years later, I moved on to work with the State Radio and I liked it even better. When the Athens Concert Hall opened in 1991, I was intrigued enough to apply. I ran its Press Office for 15 years. In 2006, when Yorgos Loukos was appointed President of the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, specifically to refresh its image, I moved there to help spread the message in my capacity as Head of Communications.
I first met Domna Samiou in 1978, when I was working with TV. We collaborated on some projects and soon became friends; I assisted her with her tours around Greece and abroad, with the publication of her records, the production of programmes for radio, and the founding of the Domna Samiou Greek Folk Music Association. My admiration for her, both on her career achievements and her personality, was immense.
It was therefore my great pleasure and honour to be elected President of the Association that Domna created in 1981 and presided till her death in 2012, in order to foster and preserve the aesthetic values of Greek traditional music and to market her favourite songs independent of record companies. In 2020 we were pleased to see Sokratis Sinopoulos, an excellent musician and longtime collaborator of Domna’s taking over the Presidency of the Association.
